Thanks for visiting my diary. I've been journaling since 1984 and have chosen to share some of my entries online. They are not all positive thoughts, but I hope that reading them might be a blessing to someone who needs encouragement.
If you are just coming to my diary for the first time, please read my introductory entry, where I share some background that is important if you plan to follow this diary regularly.
Please also visit my music page, where you can hear samples from my debut CD, I Believe, which features songs written based on experiences shared in this journal.
Well, I finally finished a song. It is called "We Are the Church." I went to my uncle's house in Lima, Ohio, on the 29th. That Sunday morning I sang it at his church. "I want you to do something for me," he said, "not for you. I want Gloria to hear that song."
I was ecstatic! I wanted almost nothing more than for Gloria to hear one of my songs. I had carried that dream everywhere I went for four years. Here in Anderson, I am so close to it that if I was brave enough, I could just snap my fingers and it would come true. But now I was not willing to snap my fingers. These people listened to new songs all the time. This is their home, the place where they should not have to do that.
Julie said she thought I should take Gloria's songwriting class. The problem there was that I needed two semesters of music theory. "I think she would let you take it anyway," Julie said. "I'll give you her phone number, and you can call her and talk to her about it."
I had mentioned the music theory problem to Gloria once, so she was aware of what was going on. I was very nervous, but I did call her. She agreed to let me take the class and also to listen to my song. I will play it for her this Sunday, October 14.
This is the most exciting thing that ever happened to me, and my support group is a thousand miles away. I want someone to share this with me, someone who knows how much I marvel again and again that I have snapped my fingers. I always thought this was just a dream that I would carry with me for the rest of my life.
