Thanks for visiting my diary. I've been journaling since 1984 and have chosen to share some of my entries online. They are not all positive thoughts, but I hope that reading them might be a blessing to someone who needs encouragement.
If you are just coming to my diary for the first time, please read my introductory entry, where I share some background that is important if you plan to follow this diary regularly.
Please also visit my music page, where you can hear samples from my debut CD, I Believe, which features songs written based on experiences shared in this journal.
"You shall not take the name of the Lord in Vain..." Some people do this a lot. The name of Jesus is used as a curse word. But other people are so afraid--"cautious" in their words--that they don't write the name of God with vowels. This bothers me... Out of respect for where they are, I will follow the custom when writing email to them. But every time I do this, it makes me think. What is this really? If we speak about God, we speak about Him whether we write God or G-d or YHWH... Writing G-d is just a way of pretending not to "take the name of the Lord in vain." It's the "easy way." And it's ineffective. The real issue is the condition of my heart and the way I use the name of the Lord. That command was issued with the assumption that I would use the name of the Lord! I can't comprehend who He is in entirety; but that certainly doesn't mean that I should run away from Him or be timid when speaking about Him. I should speak about Him. In fact, that is Jesus' commission: "Go into all the world and make disciples." How can I make disciples without speaking about God? The answer to avoiding taking the name of the Lord in vain is not avoiding speaking His name. It is drawing near and speaking the truth! When I'm speaking truth and I love Him with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength, there is no way I will be able to speak His name in vain!
