Thanks for visiting my diary. I've been journaling since 1984 and have chosen to share some of my entries online. They are not all positive thoughts, but I hope that reading them might be a blessing to someone who needs encouragement.

I haven't written much about the election... To tell the truth, part of me wants to just not think about it. Part of me thinks it's all too confusing. Conservative, liberal, left-wing... None of those terms mean anything real to me, and I don't want them to mean anything. I think it's horrible to label a person and decide my vote based on a label. People aren't machines. They can't be labeled like brand-names. Oh, Bush is a conservative right-wing fundamentalist. That just tells me that whoever said it is anti-conservative-right-wing-fundamentalists and anti-Bush based solely on that label and no matter what favorable things Bush did he would never be someone the person would vote for because he's still a conservative right-wing fundamentalist. It makes me sick! Why can't we vote for people based on their actual qualities as individuals? Most of the anti-Kerrys acted the same way. He's a liberal. So what? That doesn't tell me anything. He's pro-this and anti-that. So what? I want to know what he actually has in mind to do about real issues. I'm not casting my vote based on labels!
Now about the debates... Both candidates spent way too much time spouting statistics and bashing each other. Just once in my life I'd like to see them simply answer a question in a meaningful way that gives me some idea of what actions they plan to take and how those actions will impact the average person in this country. In general, I felt that Bush did a better job of this in the part of the debate that I watched. (Yes, I turned it off because after about an hour I wanted to escort them both offstage.) Kerry tried to talk to the middle class a bit, but he didn't give much in the way of real useful info and didn't answer questions directly or even close to directly. Sometimes he went off on a completely different topic. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence that he's really paying attention to what's going on.
I didn't vote--I wasn't registered here. I would probably have voted for Bush, although I have to say that my vote would have been more about choosing the better of two people when I'd rather choose someone else entirely. The problem is that there was no third candidate. Sure, you can write a name in; but what good does that really do? When it comes down to it, the choice is ultimately between Bush and Kerry. One of them will win the election, so I may as well vote for whoever's leadership I can stomach. Nobody really addressed disability-related issues, and to tell the truth I don't think the President can do much about most of the issues that mean the most to me. Maybe I'm just not educated enough about what the President really can and cannot do. But I do know that no matter what he does, he can't make anyone hire me or fix the Medicaid system. It's highly unlikely that major changes in my favor will occur regardless of who is President.
What bothers me most is the fact that some people just want to whine about Bush getting elected and how much better off we would be if Kerry had been elected. Some people even make hateful comments to acquaintances who voted for Bush as if they have no right to ask for improvements since they voted him in. Whoever said that voting for a candidate meant we thought he was perfect? The point is he's the one in the seat and if we want change he and Congress are the ones we have to work with to get it done. He can have whatever views he does, but it's still his job to listen to the people. If we whine instead of being proactive, of course he'll make his best judgment call. Then who's to blame? Certainly not the whiny bitter Kerry supporters who would rather blame the rest of the country who voted Bush in instead of get off their lazy tails and do what they can to work toward change!
Sadly, the reason Bush supporters get such a bad name is that some really do boil it down to a belief that Bush is a "godly man." I don't have an opinion on this. I think it's narrow-minded to vote for someone based solely on what he says his faith is. I happen to think there's a lot wrong with the "church" in America. But Dad would call me a premilennialist. so maybe I am. I think that one day this "godly man" issue is going to lead to a huge deception.
